Does performance improve if you empty them? (see File menu) Do any Inbox or filtered folders have several thousand messages? After removing global-messages-db.sqlite and starting Thunderbird, it created new global-messages-db.sqlite and global-messages-db.sqlite-journal files. When the Message Pane is empty or not visible it does not happen. Reload to refresh your session. check over here

Select multiple emails over more than one page so that there is a need to scroll. I fixed this problem deleting the file "global-messages-db.sqlite" located in the C:\Users[YourUsername]\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles*.default directory. Thunderbird constantly using 50-100% cpu, for hours at a time, only occasionally dropping below 50%.

Report a bug This report contains Public information Edit Everyone can see this information. Thunderbird CPU usage didn't go down; it's still constantly 50%-100% CPU usage. It all helps. Switching to offline mode immediately stops the problem, switching it back on resumes it, so yes, it is probably email syncing or something related.
Problem solved! (Using Ubuntu 14.04 with TB 24.6.0). Moving a message to an archive folder opens it, so consider archiving messages by by year and month rather than yearly so that the archive being used doesn't get excessively large. Workaround: Do not use the Message Pane. have a peek at these guys I'm on V32 and I have done some significant file moving recently.
I also set chat to Keep my Chat Accounts Offline ( seriously who would bother using TB for chat anyway? ) …and now it's using a miniscule amount of resources… thanks I did have to restart thunderbird to see the effect. and Options | Composition | General | Auto Save every N minutes. The problem doesn't exist in safe mode, but my address books are not available in safe mode. Can't believe they still haven't fixed the problem.
closing teh message pane did not reduce the cpu load. One person reported that after upgrading from 24.6.0 to 31.0 the main window's fonts weren't properly aliased/smoothed and some windows had unusual tints. When TB starts there are about 40 queue jobs. If you are unable to find a cause on your own, please provide the detailed results of your investigation with this list in a support forum or bug report.
