The nice thing about process explorer is that it gets you the friendly name for each process instead of the short name. Check out the Process Explorer tool from Microsoft (originally from SysInternals). The best I can do now is keep manually stopping the process every time it crops up again every few minutes. It solved my problem - the Windows Update service was using svchost and driving CPU and memory usage to the sky.
